This picture was taken in The Columbia River Gorge. The original was a 2 1/4 transparency. I had to keep my Hasselbald under my coat taking it out only for a minute or two when I took the picture.

Squirl at Cook Park

While out walking today I ran across this squirl who was very friendly until he figured out I didn't have anything for him to eat. I was able to snap a few shots before he wised up.

Some more digital magic. The original picture was taken at about noon on a overcast day. A file photo of a night sky with a moon was substituted for the white sky. Contrast, brightness and color saturation were adjusted to make the building look like it was night. Finally the light ws added to the windows.

Grand Oasis Tavern

In 1977 a run down but historic block in downtown Portland was torn down and replaced by a new high rise. A few weeks before the buildings were vacated I went down with my camera and captured the block on Kodachrome for history. I can almost smell the odor of cigarettes and stale beer coming out of the open door.

Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, where it's hard to find any structure over a hundred years old, I was always fascinated by buildings several hundred years old when I was living in Europe. This black and white photograph was taken in Southern Germany.

One thing digital photography allows you to do is create scenes. The picture of the frog was taken on a leaf next to my house. The picture of the falls was taken in the Columbia River Gorge several years earlier.
